ELSISインタビュー

こんにちは、日本支店です。
今回はシドニー、メルボルン、ブリスベンにキャンパスをおくELSISにインタビューしました。
（お話を聞いたのはブリスベンキャンパスです）
ELSISの大元はECAグループと言い、VETコースやHigher Educationの学校まで持っており、とても大きなグループです。
語学を伸ばした後に進学を考えている方には良いかもしれませんね。
※ブリスベンキャンパスには日本人スタッフがいないため、今回は英語で答えてもらっています。
英語でそのまま載せますが、スタッフのコメント部分で少し要約しておりますのでご確認頂ければと思います。

☆学校の特徴、他校との比較を教えてください☆

＞

– We have campuses in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Students can change campuses to enjoy even more their Australian experience.

 

–  We provide FREE workshops which cater to those who just want some extra practice in a fun, supportive environment. There’s our coffee/ice cream club where we gather to just chat in English; or our intensive pronunciation classes where we really hone in on those problem areas; English through music, job skills and English of the streets etc.

 

Or there’s our more academic workshops where you can take mock exams for IELTS, learn more about the skills of academic writing or go back over some problematic grammar etc. And if our workshops are still not enough, we give FREE one-on-one 20 minute tutorials.

 

And…there’s also our activities! We have barbeques, picnics, microwave cooking lessons, international food days – an exciting, evolving calendar of events that offer you an English environment above and beyond the classroom.

3都市にキャンパスがあり転校も可能なため、1つの都市だけでなく環境を変えて長期で勉強したい方には良いですね。

またELSISの特徴でもありますが、無料のワークショップが充実していることも魅力です。

会話や発音、ジョブスキルなど積極的に取りたいですね。進学を考えている方にはアカデミックワークショップもお勧めです。

そして中でもOne-on-Oneは20分間先生を独り占めにし、わからない部分を聞いたり、苦手な部分を集中的に勉強したりできるのがELSISの特長ですね！

アクティビティも充実しているため、友達作りのきっかけもたくさんありそうです。

 

☆学校周辺にはどのようなお勧めスポットがありますか☆

＞

– Our campus is 2 min away walking to Botanical Gardens: is a heritage-listed botanic garden on Alice Street, Brisbane City, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was also known as Queen’s Park. It is located on Gardens Point in the Brisbane CBD and is bordered by the Brisbane River, Alice Street, George Street, Parliament House and Queensland University of Technology’s Gardens Point campus.

 

–  Queen street is the most popular pedestrian street in Brisbane is 5 min away from the campus, there is plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes.

 

– 15 min walking is the suburb south bank South Bank is a cultural, educational and recreational precinct in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

ボタニックガーデンはちょっとゆっくり休憩したいとき、リフレッシュのため散歩をしたいときなど良いですね。

またクイーンストリートはAICオフィスがある場所でもありますが、一番メインの通りですので、本当に何でも揃っています。

サウスバンクはブリスベンと言ったらここ行って！というくらい人気なイメージです。

 

☆学校ではどういったことが学べますか☆

＞

We offer intensive general English classes, plus academic classes such as EAP, IELTS and FCE.

In our general English classes we provide you with an award winning, interactive course book. Our classrooms are fitted with first rate technology and you will “see the language come to life”. We don’t just teach vocab and grammar – we take you on a journey from one topic to another, giving you advice and support to absorb and use the new language as soon as you acquire it. In every lesson, you will feel you have achieved something as you successfully incorporate the language and grammatical structures into your language tool box.

 

Our EAP course – English for Academic Purposes – is exactly that. We push your vocabulary and grammar beyond the general topics and make sure you can deal with more academic environments. Our experienced teachers will help you to give strong, confident presentations in English, write a sound academic essay and be able to read and listen at a high level. This course is mainly for those wishing to continue with their tertiary studies but will also help those in professional environments.

 

Our IELTS course provides test familiarity and preparation in addition to developing your academic English understanding and awareness. Like our EAP course, we push your vocabulary to greater limits and focus on the important skills you need for success in the IELTS test and for what comes after the test. We make sure you are ready for uni – not just ready for the test!

 

Like our EAP course, our FCE course also makes sure you have all the information and tips and tricks to achieve the greatest success in your Cambridge First Certificate exam. But again, we’re not just about test prep – it’s no use to you if you can’t take the skills to the next level. So, we are with you every step of the way to ensure you are ready for the test AND what comes after it.

一般英語でも、EAPやその他の試験対策コースでも実際に英語を使いこなす、自信を持つということに意識をおいているようですね。

もちろん試験対策コースでは試験に受かることやスコアを達成することが第一の目標ですが、ただただ知識をいれるだけでなく、実際に大学へ進学した時、その先でも困らないようにするということはとても大事ですね。

 

☆どういった学生が多いですか☆

＞

– Most of our students come with a student Visa, they are 20 – 30 years old, we have a great nationality mix with students from Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador Peru, Spain, Italy, Check republic, Korea, Taiwan and a few Japanese.

学生ビザでの学生が多いようですね。グループが大きく、その先の進学を検討している方が多いのかもしれません。

国籍は南米が若干多めですが、日本人が少ないというのは日本人の学生にとっては嬉しいことかもしれません。

個人的にはmicrowave cooking lessonsが気になりますが、international food dayなども楽しそうですね！

 

☆授業はどのような構成ですか☆

＞

Our general English courses run for 12 weeks with practice tests every week to help you keep track of your progress and we also conduct larger, mid-course and end of course tests. We follow the Speakout Course book from Pearson in most classes and our classes run from Monday to Friday.

We have two timetables – morning and evening at the moment, but hope to offer afternoon classes in the future.

So currently you will study:

From 8:15am – 12:30pm with a 15-minute tea break around 10:15am.

OR

From 5:10pm – 9:30pm with a 15-minute tea break around 7:10pm.

日本からの申込では中々イブニングコースをご希望の方は少ないかと思いますが、モーニングのコースは12：30に授業が終わるので放課後の時間がかなり充実しそうですね。

また毎週のテストで自分の伸び、理解度を確認できるのも良いですね。

 

☆教員やスタッフの雰囲気はどうでしょう☆

＞

Our teachers are Australian teachers who have a passion for English language teaching.

They all have undergraduate degrees and a TESOL qualification and many have post graduate qualifications in this field. We have an ex-IELTS examiner on staff and teachers who contribute to academic journals in the area of ESL, so you won’t find a more qualified and experienced teaching staff than here at ELSIS. But beyond that, our teachers care about your progress and they work above and beyond to make sure you reach your goals and are successful in your language learning.

Our administrative team are also pretty amazing. At some schools, you will only have access to one person to deal with all your service needs. Here at ELSIS we have 4 or 5 people on hand at any time to make sure you are well looked after.

しっかりと教育学や英語教授法の学士を持っている先生たちのようですので、安心して勉強できそうです。

またしっかりと生徒の目標に到達できるようケアをしてくれるとのことですね。

また先生だけでなく、スタッフも面倒見の良い方たちが多い+いつでも誰かが対応をしてくれるという安心感がありますね。

 

☆どのくらいの頻度でレベルアップのチャンスがありますか☆

＞

Our courses run for 12 weeks and our policy is that you should complete a full course and achieve at least 80% before levelling up. Here at ELSIS our aim is to make sure you leave us with the highest level of English proficiency, so we won’t push you into a level we don’t believe you are ready for – that does more harm than good!

But we will definitely move you to the next level if you complete a course and are completely ready to move on. So for most students they will level up after 12 weeks.

基本的には12週間ごとにレベルアップという感じですね。

しっかりと次のレベルにいっても大丈夫か判断しながらのレベルアップですので、着実に力をつけながらレベルアップができそうです。

ただ単にクラス内のテストで合格点を取ればレベルアップという場合だと、歯抜けになってしまうので、確実性があって良いですね。

 

☆母国語禁止のルールはどうでしょう☆

＞

We have an ‘English Only’ policy here at ELSIS and we take it seriously. In class, we expect students to use English and we provide a safe environment for everyone to practice without judgement – so, there’s no need for L1.

We prefer to reward rather than punish, so we also give ‘award cards’ when we hear students speaking English in the halls. It’s our way of encouraging you to use your new language. At the end of each month a class is rewarded with prizes for being the ones who collected the most ‘award cards’.

ペナルティというよりは褒めて伸ばすタイプですね。

積極的に英語を話している学生へAward Cardを渡し、クラスで1か月に一番多くゲットした生徒にご褒美をと。

生徒によってはこういったやり方のほうがストレスがなく、英語の勉強を続けることができそうです。
